There is a strong evidence base for the effectiveness of psychological interventions in the treatment of high prevalence mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety.   Psychology can treat and resolve symptoms such as negative thinking, poor motivation, depressed mood, lack of energy and fear.  Treatment can include:

  • Strategies to help modify your behavioural responses and thinking processes;
  • Controlled and gradual strategies to confront your fears;
  • Relaxation strategies such as progressive muscle relaxation and controlled breathing;
  • Skills training to assist with problem solving, anger management, social situations, communication and stress; and
  • Interpersonal therapy to identify, understand and manage interpersonal  and relationship problems

For people with a severe mental illness such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, research concludes that psychological treatments can improve medication compliance, reduce negative behaviours and provide coping skills.

Bridges Psychology Practice complements our mental health recovery and drug and alcohol treatment services.  We specialise in providing evidence-based treatment for adults and young people (aged 12 years and over) who have a moderate to severe mental illness, suicide ideation, dual diagnosis, complex needs, or early signs of psychosis.

More recently, we have introduced psychological services for children and young people. We have modified our facilities to cater for families and children.
