Mental health promotion applies across the entire spectrum of mental health interventions and focuses on the promotion of wellbeing rather than illness prevention or treatment. It is based on the premise that the emotional and social wellbeing of everyone in a community can be enhanced through promotion activities that build the community’s capacity to support mental health.
The following diagram depicts the role of mental health promotion across the spectrum of mental health interventions and is adapted from the model first developed by PJ Mrazek & RJ Haggerty in Reducing the Risks for Mental Disorders: Frontiers for Preventive Intervention Research, 1994.
Bridges practices mental health promotion at an individual level for all clients of our mental health and drug and alcohol services. We also offer Mental Health Promotion Services at the universal, selective and indicated level. These services include:
These services aim to increase awareness & understanding, reduce stigma and discrimination, encourage help-seeking behaviour and build community resilience.
For more information about our mental health promotion services or to arrange for a training session, please contact us on 1300 707 655.
